Meet Dr. Larry Harris

The Moment Of Truth:

Clarksville Chiropractor, Dr. Larry HarrisLike most committed Chiropractors, my personal experience with the healing power of Chiropractic motivated me to return to chiropractic college to study this amazing work. I was getting out of my truck at work at Watts Barr Nuclear Power Plant when something in my back shifted. It felt like my lower half stayed in the truck while my upper half got out of the truck. My muscles went into spasm and I could not straighten up. The pain was incredible and I was well aware that I was in deep trouble. All I could think about was how my dad had gone through back surgery and now maybe I would have to face that, too.

My wife suggested I see a chiropractor as my pain continued to worsen and nothing seemed to be working for me. After one adjustment, I was able to stand straight again without any pain. This experience made a strong, lasting impression on me, to say the least. I continued seeing chiropractors over the course of several years whenever my back even hinted at being a problem and to also experience better health overall.

From Patient To Career:

My family roots are deep in Cheatham and Montgomery Counties. My father was born in Ashland City, one of 12 brothers and sisters. After retiring from the Air Force in 1968, his father bought a farm in Palmyra, Tennessee. I attended and graduated from Austin Peay State University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. My initial hope was to be a Forest Ranger. As life would have it, I worked my way into the engineering field. I served as a mechanical engineer in the nuclear power industry from the late 1970's to the mid 1980's. It was then that I decided to make a career change that would give me more control over my life and allow me to settle where I wanted. I wanted to get back to my Tennessee roots and be closer to family. I always remembered that personal experience with chiropractic care. After extensive investigation and research, I decided it was time to go back to school.

Getting On The Information Highway:

Ultimately, I received my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1991. While a student, I was blessed to meet my soon-to-be wife, Dr. Kelly Burwell. Together, we opened our office at 1202 Crossland Avenue in Clarksville on April 12th, 1992. We expanded our office and moved to our current, new facility last year. We are extremely proud of the state-of-the-art health facility we are able to offer our patients to enhance and expedite their healing experience. I am an active member of the Tennessee Chiropractic Association and TNChiro.com..

My Family and Interests:

I am the proud father of six children; Natalie, Andrea, Nicole, Tiffany, Amelia, and Colan. I just recently met my newest, sixth grandchild. My wife, two children, and I live out in the Palmyra area next to my father’s farm. We really enjoy outdoor activities. I am a fanatic about exercise and really enjoy working out at our local YMCA several times a week. We are home schooling our children and living a health-oriented lifestyle every day. We have been blessed through our commitment to healthier living, not only for ourselves, but for those whose lives we have the privilege of touching through the art of chiropractic

So What’s The Big Picture?:

Our bodies were designed to function perfectly. We change structurally as a result of trauma, stress, toxins, thoughts, and poor posture. Degeneration and nerve tension can be the by-product of these changes and result in interference with the normal function of the nervous system. I have designed this office to evaluate your condition to first ascertain if yours is a chiropractic case. This is done through thorough examination, x-rays, and other testing to determine the cause of your condition with heavy emphasis on structure and positioning of spinal segments. When you are accepted for care, we will use the information gathered from your evaluation to custom design a treatment plan to obtain the most complete resolve of your problem in the shortest, most cost effective manner possible.

Knowledge is the key to regaining and maintaining good health. I believe that knowledge is the most important product we supply. I will map out a clear target of health objectives and then educate, educate, educate about how to achieve the changes necessary to restore integrity in your spinal and nervous systems that will allow health to return, according to design.

I employ many types of chiropractic treatment to meet the specific needs of my patients to provide relief as effectively and efficiently as possible. The system of CBP (Chiropractic Biophysics) was so closely in tune with my engineering background and understanding that it was a natural choice for me. Other procedures I may also employ include: Palmer Package, Thompson, Diversified, and Activator, among others.

The changes we create together will start the process of healing. However, this is more involved than you merely showing up for your appointments to be treated. You are expected to become actively involved in this process by perhaps making simple, seemingly small, changes in your lifestyle habits. Simple things like how you sleep and for how long, how you sit, stand, walk and generally "carry" yourself.

Above all else, remember healing is a choice. A process of making positive changes long enough to allow our body’s innate healing ability to do its thing. Albert Einstein made this astute observation and is most applicable to us as we review our health status and contemplate doing something to improve it:

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome."

So What’s Next?:

The walk to wellness is a life long journey. It is never static. We are either becoming healthier every day or sicker every day as a result of our choices. Sometimes, especially in crisis moments, we need help along the way. I would be privileged to make that walk with you. Please call me at 368-0423 and let’s begin the journey back to where you want to be!

Our Doctor Asks some important questions of interest to Clarksville residents - Chiropractor Clarksville Our Doctor Asks...

Will chiropractic adjustments make my spine too loose?
No. Only the spinal joints that are fixated and "locked up" receive attention. The occasional spinal joint that moves too much is passed over so weakened muscles and ligaments can strengthen and heal.
How long does it take to form a bone spur?
Many who begin chiropractic care think their problem happened "last week when you bent over funny." But pictures of the spine tell a different story. Chiropractors know it can take your body years to deposit the calcium necessary to form a bone spur. It's your body's response to stress due to gravity or joint malfunction. And chiropractic care can help.
